Having spent 12 months travelling around Australia in 2019 I am in awe of the Australian landscape and it's stunning beauty. I'm also passionate about supporting the war on the use of plastic bags especially when I see the devastation that discarded plastic is doing to our beautiful environment. My art practice involves the repurpose of plastic and other reclaimed materials into aesthetically appealing art forms.

Since graduating from Riverina Institute of TAFE in December 2014, I continue to take an experimental approach. I enjoy making art through painting, drawing, illustration, printmaking, sculpture and working on mixed media projects. I attempt to express the beauty of nature through my artworks but I don't restrict myself to any particular discipline.

My goal was to have an art space where I could showcase my own and other local artists in a home environment. Cullalo ArtHouse is both a gallery space and an airbnb. Each month I try to feature one of the exhibiting artists. Look for "Featured Artist on the Cullalo ArtHouse website https://www.cullaloarthouse.com/

  • the war on plastic

some factual info for us to digest!

Reference: Planet Ark Plastic bag reduction website:

Every year Australians use around 3.9 billion plastic bags. That's over 10.6 million bags per day!! A person's use of a plastic bag can be counted in minutes, however it can take between 15 and 1000 years to break down in the environment.

In the marine environment plastic bag litter is lethal, killing tens of thousands of birds, whales, seals and turtles every year as they often mistake plastic bags for food such as jellyfish. After an animal is killed by plastic bags its body decomposes and the plastic is released back into the environment where it can kill again.

On land, plastic bag litter can block drains, trap birds and kill livestock. Approximately 30 to 50 million plastic bags end up as litter on our beaches, streets and parks. It has been estimated that it costs governments, businesses and community groups over $4 million a year to clean up littered plastic shopping bags.

“Repurposed Art” is a collective name for my artworks that are wholly or partly made from used plastic bags and other recycled materials. Artworks can be in the form of two or three dimensions to include sculpture, jewellery, weaving, knitting, mixed media, wall art and much more.

My aim is to repurpose plastic into aesthetically appealing art or objects that will have a use, whether as wall art, sculpture, wearable art or home decor objects. I see this as a small step towards a positive outcome in maintaining an environment that is currently in danger of pollution from plastic bag usage by the human race.

I'm sure I'll take off again in the future, but in the meantime here's the promised summary of the 12 months travel. During the trip I spent around $400...
Well my journey is getting very close to the end and I’m not sure how I feel about that. I can’t believe it’s been almost 12 months. I get a surreal feeling when I look at the map and see the distance I’ve travelled and the places I’ve stayed. Just the fact that I made it home in one piece...
This edition documents the rest of my South Australian experience to the Victorian border. The date is Feb 16th and I'm on my way to Whyalla. I called into Arno Bay and after walking the jetty I then walked along a 700 metre boardwalk through mango groves to the river inlet where I met a couple...
